Fitzwilliam, [N. H.], Oct. 9, 1889

H. E. Gatewood, S. V. C.

Dear Sir Comrade,

Comrade C. C. Wheelock is sick with consumption at his father's in this village. He is made as comfortable as the circumstances of the case will permit, as his relations take good care of him. Our Post has volunteered to supply watchers when needed. He is rapidly failing and there is no hope of his ever being any better. It is only a question of time with him. Should not be surprised if he died not less a week.

Yours in F. C. & L,
J. M. Parker
Adjt. Post 72

Note: Wheelock was a member of Gettysburg G.A.R. Post #191, in Boston, Mass. The prediction in this letter of his dying within a week was pretty accurate. He died on Oct. 19, 1889, ten days after it was written. Natt Head Post 72 was located in Fitzwilliam.
